Thanks and be safe. 3/16/20

Good Afternoon, as the situation around the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) evolves and more cases are discovered across the state, we want to remain consistent in our communication across the district.  We recognize that there continues to be anxiety among our families, staff, and students, and we want to reiterate what Governor Andy Beshear and the Kentucky Department of Public Health have already expressed:  this is not a time to panic as the risk of getting the virus is relatively low.  We want to reassure everyone that we will continue to be in communication with the Kentucky Department of Education, The Kentucky Department of Health, and our Northern Kentucky Health Department.

Please remind students to wash their hands.  Please remember to wash your hands.

While the coronavirus is new,  the procedures we already have in place are the same recommendations for COVID-19.

Students and staff should be reminded to:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 sec. especially before eating or after using restroom
    • alcohol based hand sanitizer can be used if needed
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth because germs spread this way
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and put the tissue in the waste basket.  If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow-NOT YOUR HANDS
  • Don’t share cups or eating utensils

KCSD Practices in Place:

  • Custodial staff are using a hospital grade disinfectant on surfaces that is an EPA approved product for use against COVID-19
  • High contact areas (handrails, door knobs, water fountains) and areas identified by principals as high volume will receive extra custodial attention
  • Soap dispensers contain antibacterial foaming hand cleaner
  • Transportation staff are using a hospital grade disinfectant spray on bus seats/surfaces after the last run of each day

Thank you for your attention to this matter and please continue to let us know if you have any questions.

KENTON COUNTY SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED on Monday, February 3, 2020 for an Professional Development Day. 1-29-20

Attendance Matters...A Lot!

Parents... as we begin the second semester of the school year, please emphasize with your students, the importance of daily attendance and success in school. Across the country, more than 8 million students are missing so many days of school that they are academically at risk. Chronic absence - missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason - excused, unexcused absences and suspensions, can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing subjects and ninth-graders dropping out of high school. 1/29/20

Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence. Visit https://www.attendanceworks.org/ for more.

Congratulations to Mayo Howlett who was selected to attend Boys Nation in Washington D.C.

Two representatives from each of the 49 Boys States represent their state at Boys Nation in Washington, where the young leaders receive an education on the structure and function of federal government.

At the event, each delegate acts as a senator from his Boys State. The young lawmakers caucus at the beginning of the session, then organize into committees and conduct hearings on bills submitted by program delegates.

Senators learn the proper method of handling bills, according to U.S. Senate rules. Participation in the political process is emphasized throughout the week, including organization of party conventions and nominating and electing a president and vice president.

The week of government training also includes lectures, forums and visits to federal agencies, national shrines, institutions, memorials and historical sites. On Capitol Hill, Boys Nation senators meet with elected officials from their home states. 7-19-19
