I started teaching in 1998 at Boone County High School, where I pioneered the Arts & Humanities curriculum. From there, I moved to Gray Middle School, where I taught for two years as the sixth grade and eighth grade Language Arts teacher. In 2001, I moved to Ludlow Middle School where I taught 8th grade English and a Drama elective. In 2002, I landed at Dixie Heights High School, where I've been ever since.
In my time here, I've taught English in grades 9, 10, & 12, accelerated English, regular English, English for Life and Work, Drama 1, 2 & Stagecraft, Science Fiction Lit, YA Lit, Arts & Humanities, Sports Literature, Greek Mythology, CCR and Lit & Film.
Additionally, I coached girls' track for two years, co-orchestrated the talent show for ten years, played Madame Zoe at Project Prom for twelve years, directed three musicals and seven plays, supervised five student teachers and once had a fake pipe bomb dropped in my lap.
Outside my school life, I've had a number of personal vignettes published in a collection called, The Waiting Room, compiled by Kalle Fletcher. Currently, I'm volunteering as a Beta Reader for a YA author, named Brant Williams on his upcoming book, The Thirteen Worlds. In my own writing, I'm approximately 56,000 words into a YA novel of my own, called Off a Cliff with two companion novels in the works as well.
In my personal life, I'm a mom to two beautiful children, whom I tell stories about all the time. I'm also a singer and my first album of covers, called Beautiful, sold out in 2018. Plans are in the works for more albums to come. If you're interested in my latest recording and projects, you can follow me on YouTube at AmyRingMusic. I'd love to hear from you and welcome suggestions for new material and upcoming projects!
I currently hold a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in Secondary Education with emphasis on English and Theater.
