School News & Announcements

Thank you, teachers!

May 2-6, 2016 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. The Kenton County School District would like to thank all of our teachers for all you do for our students.

King's Basketball Academy

We have a unique offer for your school! When any athlete from your school uses the group code PE2016 during our program registration process, we will give $5 back to your school. Checks will be distributed quarterly from our office here in Wilder. To provide some more information about who we are and what we offer, please see the below description.

Kings Basketball Academy focuses on the development of athletes in the sport of basketball. Although we do offer high level programs, we have built the foundation of our Academy on the fundamentals of the game. We want to assure that all athletes have an opportunity to develop at a high level no matter their current skill level. We currently offer the following programs at our new facility in Wilder, KY (T&C Athletic Center):

  • First Dribble (ages 4-5)
  • Developmental League (Kindergarten – 2nd Grade)
  • ACYB League (3rd -12th Grade)
  • Training

Panther Generosity

Thank you for your help in making our recent community service projects successful! The generosity of our students, their families and our staff will be felt in many parts of the globe.  The results of these projects follow:

  • Flip Flops for Haiti: over 125 pair were collected!
  • Food Drive for Action Ministries: over 1200 lbs. of food was collected, which will feed 640 people!
  • Cystic Fibrosis PJ day: Piner students donated $310 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for research for a cure! This fundraiser was close to our hearts as one of our own Piner students suffers from CF.
Arts for Life Night is May 4

The community is invited to attend 'Arts of Life Night' on May 4. Come enjoy the beautiful artwork of some of Kenton County's youngest and finest artists!

Personal Information Updates

If your personal information such as cell phone numbers or email addresses change, please contact our school office and let us know. It is important that we have current information on hand in case we need to reach you for an emergency. We appreciate your help with this.

KPREP Testing

Our KPREP testing dates have been confirmed. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will participate in state testing on May 11, 12, 13, 16, and 18. Please help us to
maintain our Distinguished rating by making sure your testing student is in class every day that we are testing. Please do not plan to take a vacation or trip during that time, or to schedule routine appointments. Students do their best when they are taking the test in their classrooms with their regular teachers and peers.
However, if your student is out sick, please let us know and we will make arrangements to provide make up testing.

Spring Dress Code

Now that the weather is finally warming up, students have been asking if it is acceptable to wear shorts. With the variable nature of spring weather, please keep an eye on the forecast and help your student to choose appropriate attire. If the weather is going to be warm (i.e. 70 degrees or more), fingertip-length shorts are okay. Sandals may also be worn if they have a back (no flip flops, please.)
Please remember to wear gym shoes on PE days.

Summer Learning Program Information

This summer, our Summer Learning Program will be greatly expanded, thanks to our partnership with the YMCA and the 21st Century Grant.  Registration information is being sent home today, but please note that our program will start June 6 and run daily from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday through July 7.  Lunch is included.  Busing will be provided Tuesdays and Thursdays, and there will be a one-time cost of $25 per family for students to participate. We will have a limit of 20 students per grade level. Be sure to return your students’ registrations as soon as possible to secure their places in the program.

Piner's New Parent Communication App

This new communication tool will bring our messages, calendars, events, sign-ups for parent teacher meetings, RSVP and volunteering to your fingertips.  Help us save paper and time by signing up and downloading the app when you receive the email with the heading “Sangha Mailer” with the subject saying “Piner Elementary School is inviting you to sign up for your class.”  It will only take 30 seconds! Make sure you turn on the push notification so you are able to receive the alerts.

Follow the steps in your personalized invite to ensure you sign up for the full App.  You want to ensure you log in to receive the full App and not just the generic calendar version.

If you did not receive a Sangha email invitation, this means we do not have a current email address on file for you at the school. Simply send a note to us with your email address, and we can add it to our database and send you a Sangha invitation.

Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Jefferds if you have any questions.

Introducing "MyBusBuddie" parent portal

Parents and guardians are always interested in the status of the bus that transports their children.  While everything possible is done to assure that the buses operate on schedule, situations arise that can cause delays in their arrival times at a student’s stop.

The Kenton County School District desires to keep parents and guardians informed of the current status and location of their bus, and to make it as easy as possible to provide this communication without interfering with parents’ normal schedule.

Kroger Community Rewards

Help us earn money for Piner Elementary by signing up for the Kroger Community Rewards program. It is free, and uses your existing Kroger Plus card to give back 10% of your purchases to our school!  It’s easy to sign up:
*Log in to http://www.kroger.com
*In the upper right hand corner, you will see 2 orange boxes that say SIGN IN and REGISTER.
*If your Kroger Plus Card (the one you swipe to save money in store) is already registered on-line (if you download coupons, you're registered), click the SIGN IN button.  Then, enter the e-mail address and password you used when registering your account.  At the bottom of the Account Summary page, you will see COMMUNITY REWARDS.  In this section you can search for Piner Elementary or enter our school ID number 40665.  Select our school and then every time you swipe your Kroger card, Piner will earn money.  You don't have to do anything else.
*If you don't have your card registered online, click the REGISTER button.  It will prompt you to answer a couple of questions to set up your account.  Once registered, follow the steps above.
