Schools recognized for PBIS

It is with great honor that the Kentucky Center for Instructional Discipline/KY PBIS Network recognizes the following schools in the Kenton County Schools with the Fidelity Sticker to place on their PBIS banner.

Have You Signed Up for Sangha Yet?

Have you signed up for Sangha yet?  Sangha is our new school wide free communication app.  You can start by downloading the free Sangha app to your smart phone. Remember to allow push notifications from the app.   To complete your Sangha registration, go to www.sanghapp.com/parentsignup and fill in the information requested, including our school code of Q4WNZ5. Additionally, you can send a note to your child’s teacher with your name, your child’s name, your email address and your mobile phone number clearly printed. We will get you started right away. We will be using the Sangha app to sign up for parent teacher conferences in October, so I encourage you to sign up as soon as possible.

PTA Fall Festival

The annual PTA Fall Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 22. We need many helpers to have a successful event!  Teachers will be seeking volunteers for short shifts to help run games. Please help us by signing up. Also, teachers will be asking for donations of specific items to put into the class baskets. These baskets will be auctioned off, and money raised by the baskets will go directly to your child’s classroom to purchase instructional materials. We appreciate your help with this wonderful community activity!

Picture Day is Coming!

School pictures will be taken Wednesday, October 5. Order packets will be coming home soon. Please be sure to pre-order your photos-a picture makeup day will be scheduled on November 14.

Cafeteria Policy

Part of our students’ educational program is to learn about making healthy food choices. We work hard to model this with our school lunches. Our cafeteria team prepares delicious and nutritious foods every day. Our school policy is that we do not permit fast food or soft drinks to be served in our cafeteria for lunch. Please consider the nutritional and caloric value of the foods you send to school for your child’s lunch.

Transportation Changes

Please send all transportation changes in writing on a separate piece of paper, not in your child’s planner. Include the student’s first and last name, teacher, and address going to.  If the child is going home with another student, we must have a permission note from the other student’s parents. For car riders, please also list car tag #.

Compass Learning

We are excited to once again offer Compass Learning to our students!  Compass Learning is an online website that creates learning paths, in math and reading, for students that align with their MAP scores.  Students will be working on Compass at school, but we would also like for students to work on Compass at home.  Working on Compass at home will ensure further achievement for students.  Please watch for students to bring home their username and passwords.  To access the Compass website, go to the Kenton County School District webpage, choose students, and then Compass Learning.  If you have any further questions about Compass, please contact your child's teacher.

MAP Testing

We will begin MAP testing in the areas of Reading and Math on Wednesday, September 7.  The results of this test will be used to flexibly group students, target students who need interventions, identify students in fifth grade for the Prep+ program, and more. Please encourage your child to do his or her best on this important assessment!

Welcome New Staff!

Please welcome some new staff members to Piner:  Ms. McGlone, 2nd grade; Ms. Straley, preschool; and Mrs. Howard, Music teacher.  We are excited to add such high caliber education professionals to our staff!

Information About Volunteering at Piner

If you would like to volunteer at Piner and do not have an approved background check on file, please note that there is a $10 processing fee for each. Background checks are good for three years.  If you are unable to afford this fee, the school will help as funds are available. Volunteers must also complete annual volunteer training-see the FRC newsletter for training dates.

Important Information about Treats

Due to the increased number and severity of student food allergies, we now require that all treats brought to school to share (ex: parties, birthdays) must be store bought and in their original packaging, with nutritional information attached.  Any treats that do not meet this standard will not be served. Thanks for helping to keep our students safe!

Volunteer Orientations

Volunteer Orientations will take place on the following dates and times.  All volunteeers must attend these orientations to go on field trips or to volunteer at Piner.  For questions, please contact Jody Bohman at 859-957-0046.

KCSD hosts parent education nights to talk about social media

The Kenton County School District hosted several parent education nights to inform parents about social media. Online materials and video is now available.

Introducing "MyBusBuddie" parent portal

Parents and guardians are always interested in the status of the bus that transports their children.  While everything possible is done to assure that the buses operate on schedule, situations arise that can cause delays in their arrival times at a student’s stop.

The Kenton County School District desires to keep parents and guardians informed of the current status and location of their bus, and to make it as easy as possible to provide this communication without interfering with parents’ normal schedule.

The Kenton County School District is hiring!

Are you looking for a job that has benefits? Would you like to work the same schedule as your children? The Kenton County School District has a job for you!
