The Kenton County School District offers an engaging preschool program to area children. The preschool program is available to 3- and 4-year-old children who live in the district and meet eligibility requirements.

  • children who are 4 years old by August 1, 2017 and whose family meets certain income requirements.
  • 3- and 4-year-old children with developmental delays. To determine whether your child may have a developmental delay, a brief screening is conducted in the areas of cognition, communication, motor skills, self-help skills, and social skills. A delay in any of these areas may result in your child being eligible for preschool.
  • Screening is structured to be completed through games and play.
  • Your child will be screened in five areas.  The areas include: motor, language, concepts, self-help and social development.
  • Motor

Gross Motor items screened include catching, jumping, hopping and skipping. Fine Motor items include building with blocks, cutting copying shapes and letters and name writing.

  • Language

Your child will be asked simple personal questions (name, age, gender), articulation, naming or identifying objects and actions, and rhyming.

  • Concepts

Children will be asked to point to named body parts, name and identify colors, count blocks, place a block in named positions relative to a model house, and sorting shapes.

  • Self-Help Development

Screens the child’s development of personal care skills related to dressing, eating and grooming.

  • Social Development

Looks at the child’s development of social skills with other children and parents, including rule compliance, sharing, self-control, and empathy.

  • Vision and hearing will also be screened to see if there are any concerns with how your child is seeing and hearing.

  • The screening process can take 1 to 1 ½   hours.
