Congratulations to the New SBDM Members!

Congratulations to our newly elected SBDM Council. Our members for the 2016-17 school year are parents Rhonda Davis and Jon Adkins, and teachers Emily Thompson, Hillary Lubbers, and Bethany Endicott.  Thanks to each of you for your commitment to helping improve student achievement at Piner.

Field Day

Field Day is next Wednesday, May 25.  Please be sure your child is dressed in appropriate athletic clothing and gym shoes, as we will be playing outside all day.  Each child may wear a hat and bring sunscreen to reapply as needed, as well as a water bottle. Kona Ice will be here selling cold treats, so you may send $3 with your student if they would like to purchase a Kona Ice.

Address Changes

If you are moving this summer and your child (incoming grades 1-5) will no longer attend Piner, please let us know in the office so that we may prepare your student’s records for his or her next school and help your transition to go smoothly.  859-356-2155. Thank you!

Cafeteria Charges

Miss Monica, our cafeteria manager, needs to balance her books before summer! If you received a letter stating that you owe lunch charges, please pay the charges before the last day of school. Questions? Call Monica Trattles at 356-2155 ext. 5014. We appreciate your help with this!

Congratulations to Piner student Eliza Davis, who won the AARP Kenton County Grandparent Writing Contest!

Thank you, teachers!

May 2-6, 2016 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. The Kenton County School District would like to thank all of our teachers for all you do for our students.

Spring Dress Code

Now that the weather is finally warming up, students have been asking if it is acceptable to wear shorts. With the variable nature of spring weather, please keep an eye on the forecast and help your student to choose appropriate attire. If the weather is going to be warm (i.e. 70 degrees or more), fingertip-length shorts are okay. Sandals may also be worn if they have a back (no flip flops, please.)
Please remember to wear gym shoes on PE days.

Summer Learning Program Information

This summer, our Summer Learning Program will be greatly expanded, thanks to our partnership with the YMCA and the 21st Century Grant.  Registration information is being sent home today, but please note that our program will start June 6 and run daily from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday through July 7.  Lunch is included.  Busing will be provided Tuesdays and Thursdays, and there will be a one-time cost of $25 per family for students to participate. We will have a limit of 20 students per grade level. Be sure to return your students’ registrations as soon as possible to secure their places in the program.

Piner's New Parent Communication App

This new communication tool will bring our messages, calendars, events, sign-ups for parent teacher meetings, RSVP and volunteering to your fingertips.  Help us save paper and time by signing up and downloading the app when you receive the email with the heading “Sangha Mailer” with the subject saying “Piner Elementary School is inviting you to sign up for your class.”  It will only take 30 seconds! Make sure you turn on the push notification so you are able to receive the alerts.

Follow the steps in your personalized invite to ensure you sign up for the full App.  You want to ensure you log in to receive the full App and not just the generic calendar version.

If you did not receive a Sangha email invitation, this means we do not have a current email address on file for you at the school. Simply send a note to us with your email address, and we can add it to our database and send you a Sangha invitation.

Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Jefferds if you have any questions.

Introducing "MyBusBuddie" parent portal

Parents and guardians are always interested in the status of the bus that transports their children.  While everything possible is done to assure that the buses operate on schedule, situations arise that can cause delays in their arrival times at a student’s stop.

The Kenton County School District desires to keep parents and guardians informed of the current status and location of their bus, and to make it as easy as possible to provide this communication without interfering with parents’ normal schedule.
