School News & Announcements

Hat Day on October 7

Students can wear a hat to school for $1.00.  Hat Day proceeds will go to our school wide gorilla adoption.  We have been reading our One Book, One School book entitled, The One and Only Ivan.  This book’s theme involves a gorilla being contained for many years.  Therefore, this fundraiser is taking place to help promote more gorillas to have the ability to live in their natural habitat.  At Piner, would like to help provide the opportunity for our students to adopt an actual gorilla.  Students will receive a picture of the gorilla we adopt and other information concerning the animal.

Internet Safety Classes for Parents

The 21st Century program will be hosting a Family Night with four 15 minute sessions called "Quick Tips for Internet Safety" during Parent/Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, October 11th. These sessions are open to ALL Piner families and will be at 5:00, 6:00, 6:30, and 7:00. Please pick the session that best fits your conference schedule and join us in the school library. Each family who attends will receive a free gift, and will be entered into a door prize drawing for each session!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up on Oct. 11 and 12.  Our goal is 100% participation. It is important that we team together with you for the benefit of your child.  Teachers will be using our Sangha App to schedule conference times.  If you have not yet signed up for Sangha, you can go to www.sanghapp.com/parentsignup and fill in the information requested, including our school code of Q4WNZ5. Additionally, you can send a note to your child’s teacher with your name, your child’s name, your email address and your mobile phone number clearly printed. We can assist with getting you signed up. If you are unable to use Sangha for some reason, please let your child’s teacher know so that they may schedule a conference appointment with you via email or note.

We are a Distinguished School!

Today the Kentucky Department of Education released our KPREP test scores for 2014-15. We are proud and happy to report that Piner Elementary has once again been rated a Distinguished Kentucky Elementary School!  This means that our school falls into the top 10% of all elementary schools in the state. Congratulations to our staff and students!  Remaining a Distinguished school is a notable achievement, and reflects hours of hard work by our students, staff and teachers. In the upcoming weeks, the teachers and I will be closely analyzing our test scores to develop our school improvement plan.

If you would like a detailed look at our KPREP scores, you can go to the Kentucky Department of Education webpage and click on the “Open House” button. Then select “School Report Card” and choose “Kenton County School District” and “Piner Elementary.”

PTA Fall Festival

The annual PTA Fall Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 22. We need many helpers to have a successful event!  Teachers will be seeking volunteers for short shifts to help run games. These baskets will be auctioned off, and money raised by the baskets will go directly to your child’s classroom to purchase instructional materials.
