Six Steps to Success!

  1. 1) USE YOUR AGENDA: This is an excellent organizational tool for you to use in all of your classes. You paid for it through school fees, so use it. It also contains other useful information such as grading period deadlines and school policies.

  2. 2) HAVE ALL MATERIALS FOR CLASSES: Get organized each night for the next day. You also have time between each class to get things from your locker to be prepared for the next class. If you happened to forget something, stop by the Pioneer Pride Shop before school or at lunch and get what you need.

  3. 3) KNOW WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU AT SIMON KENTON: There is a common set of rules that all Freshman Academy teachers enforce in addition to rules specific to their classroom. Make sure you know each teacher’s individual rules in addition to the 9th grade rules. Know homework procedures, classroom procedures, and when tests are. If you are not sure of something you need to ask the appropriate teacher.

  4. 4) BE ON TIME: All students are expected to be in their 1st Period class and seated at 7:40 every morning. Tardies and absences tend to cause students to struggle in school. Even the best students can have a hard time getting back on track after an absence. Don’t put yourself in a position of being left behind everyone else.

  5. 5) DO YOUR HOMEWORK: Don’t put your homework off until the last minute or until “you feel like it.” Getting started is the hardest part of completing homework. Try different strategies to completing homework and find one that works for you. You can start with the simple assignments to get in the groove and then tackle the more challenging assignments. You could also try doing some before dinner and more after dinner, which gives you some break in between. Again, do what works best for you but get it done and turned in.

  6. 6) GET HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT: If you are worried or stressed out about a class, an assignment, a teacher, another student, a school rule, or a problem at home, you need to let someone know. When other things are on your mind it will have an impact on how you perform in class. You can talk with a teacher, the Freshman Coordinator, or the Freshman Administrator. They are all here to help you be a successful student at Simon Kenton. You can also have your parent call and talk to someone about your issue. Almost every situation has a solution, but we can’t help unless you let us know what is going on.
