A Message From Your Principal

A message from your Principal,

Due to the recent events at Dixie and around our region it is important for everyone in our community to speak with our children about the impact of Social Media. I am a huge social media user for both professional and personal usage.  We at Dixie Heights have an Instagram, Twitter and Facebook page that we use to showcase the many great things that are occurring at Dixie Heights High School.  I find great pride in sharing with our community student successes, activities, and performances.  I also am happy to showcase the wonderful faculty that we have and the tremendous learning that occurs within the walls of Dixie.

However, social media has also created an avenue for things that are not positive and can cause great concern within our community as was witnessed this past week. We need to be speaking with our students about the negative impact social media can have on individuals, groups, and organizations.  Once something is posted, it is forever out there for people to see.  Please speak with your children about the proper usage of social media.

Weather Decisions in the Kenton County School District

It's the time of year when inclement weather could impact daily operations in the Kenton County School District. Please take a moment to review our inclement weather policy here: http://www.kenton.kyschools.us/Content/786

Tardy Consequences Be on time

Attention all students. Beginning with the second trimester, we will be monitoring our tardy students with a different method. Any student who accumulates 5 tardies to school will be issued an after-school detention on the 5th tardy. After School Detention will be issued for every occurrence up to the 10th one. On the 10th tardy to school, you will be issued a Friday School for every tardy up to number 15. For every tardy over 15, you will be issued a full day of ICE. If you reach 20 tardies for the year, you lose the privilege to park on campus for the remainder of the school year. Making it to school on time is an important part of your success. Please make every effort to be at school and in your 1st period class by 7:40 AM.

Treble & Chamber Choirs Earn Distinguished Rating! Chamber & Treble Choirs

We are very proud to announce that our Treble Choir and Chamber Choir earned straight distinguished ratings at KMEA Performance Assessment yesterday. Each choir sang three pieces for adjudication by the stage judges. After that, they were given 3 minutes to study a brand new piece of music and perform it on the spot. I'm happy to say that they rocked both!!! Both groups scored a 39 out of 40 on sight singing! And to make it even better, our students positively represented Dixie by modeling professional concert etiquette and behavior both on and off the stage. What an awesome day! If you see a choir kiddo, give them a pat on the back. They worked hard and did great!

Student Scheduling

Student scheduling is an important process of setting up a student for success.  In order to provide support to our students in selecting appropriate courses, a draft course schedule is created for each student in order to begin the scheduling process.  This draft of pre-loaded courses is based on the recommended cut scores listed in the course guide.  For example, students not reaching benchmark (using the most current assessment percentile score) may be placed in career pathway courses which help them achieve transition readiness.  If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s draft schedule, please contact your child’s guidance counselor.
