A Message From Your Principal

A message from your Principal,

Due to the recent events at Dixie and around our region it is important for everyone in our community to speak with our children about the impact of Social Media. I am a huge social media user for both professional and personal usage.  We at Dixie Heights have an Instagram, Twitter and Facebook page that we use to showcase the many great things that are occurring at Dixie Heights High School.  I find great pride in sharing with our community student successes, activities, and performances.  I also am happy to showcase the wonderful faculty that we have and the tremendous learning that occurs within the walls of Dixie.

However, social media has also created an avenue for things that are not positive and can cause great concern within our community as was witnessed this past week. We need to be speaking with our students about the negative impact social media can have on individuals, groups, and organizations.  Once something is posted, it is forever out there for people to see.  Please speak with your children about the proper usage of social media.

NEW Procedures for Student Absences

NEW Procedures for Student Absences..........

If a student is absent from school, we would appreciate a phone call from the parent/guardian notifying the school of the student's absence. Please call the attendance office at (426-4910) by 7:40 a.m. on the morning of the absence. Calls will not be accepted from the student. In addition to the phone call, when the student returns to school he/she must present a written and dated note signed by the parent/guardian or physician explaining the absence. Students will only be given 3 school days upon return to turn in the note. After 3 days the absence will remain UNEXCUSED

A maximum of ten (10) excused days each year may be excused with a signed note from a parent/guardian or doctor. If there are more than ten (10) days excused, a Medical Excuse Form must be completed, stating the student was seen in the doctor's office, and returned for review by school officials within three (3) days of the absence for the absence to be excused. (The Medical Excuse Form is located on the Health Services tab at www.kenton.ky12.ky.us or from the school office.)

Please see Hannah E. Sizemore, our Attendance Secretary, for additional information or if you have questions.
